Astrophysical and Cosmological Constraints on Neutrino masses 1
We review some astrophysical and cosmological properties and implications of neutrino masses and mixing angles. These include: constraints based on the relic density of neutrinos, limits on their masses and lifetimes, BBN limits on mass parameters, neutrinos and supernovae, and neutrinos and high energy cosmic rays. to appear in “Neutrino Mass”, Springer Tracts in Modern Physics, ed. by G. Alta...
متن کاملCosmological and Ast,rophysical Const, raints on a Pseudo-Dirac Tau Ncutrino*
Rcccnt experiments suggest that uT may be a pseudo-Dirac neutrino wi1.h m, x 17 keV. In general, if such a neutrino is to be consistent with constraink from nucleosynthesis, one needs to give up the MSW solution to the solar neut, rino problem and the singlet-majoron so1ution.t.o the energy density problem. Also, t.he dista.nce required for vT to oscillate int.o it.s st.erile Dira,c partner beco...
متن کاملTau Neutrinos from Astrophysical and Cosmological Sources
Previous work on the neutrino spectra from high energy sources has not included the tau neutrinos directly produced by the decays in the source. Here we consider the tau neutrino component and discuss how its inclusion modifies the expected neutrino spectra. We discuss implications for interpreting any observed tau neutrino component in TeV UHE events as evidence of νμ → ντ oscillations.
متن کاملConstraints on a massive Dirac neutrino model.
We examine constraints on a simple neutrino model in which there are three massless and three massive Dirac neutrinos and in which the left handed neutrinos are linear combinations of doublet and singlet neutrinos. We examine constraints from direct decays into heavy neutrinos, indirect effects on electroweak parameters, and flavor changing processes. We combine these constraints to examine the...
متن کاملCosmological and Astrophysical Bounds on Neutrino Masses and Lifetimes
The best upper bounds on the masses of stable and unstable light neutrinos derive from the upper bound on the total mass density, as inferred from the lower limit t0 > 13 Gyr on the dynamical age of the Universe: If the Universe is matterdominated, mν < 35(23)× max[1, (t0/τν) 1/2] eV, according as a cosmological constant is (is not) allowed. The best constraints on the radiative decay of light ...
